It’s top meets bottom tomorrow as Wolves take on Doncaster Rovers in a game which Wolves will surely be looking to win. It will however I fear be a task, because while they have a very poor away record their home form, while not brilliant is what you could probably describe as “battling”. While they don’t score many (Their leading goal scorer has 3 so far this season) I fully expect them to raise their game against Wolves, and while they might stop short of parking the team bus in front of the goal, I’ll expect them to put everything behind the ball. Wolves are going to have to work hard to break down Donny, but if anyone can do it, then England’s top scoring team might well be the team who can. It’s an interesting statistic to see that Doncaster and Wolves have conceded the same amount of goals so far this season – 27. And while that’s fine for a team like Wolves with 50 goals going in the other end, Doncaster are struggling for goals, only managing 11 in 23 games.

Wolves’ attacking options look like they will be boosted by the possible return of Iwelumo, who’s overcome his ankle twist, and might force Keogh back to the bench. Jarvis will also be pushing for a place as he came through a friendly mid week with no problems. Jones, Kightly and Iwelumo are each on 4 yellows going into the game so they’ll have to be on their best behaviour so as not to be ruled ineligible for the Sheffield United game on boxing day, to lose all three for that game would be a major handicap.

Game predictions? It’s a 2-0 to the Wolves for me, with Kightly to get the first goal.

Elsewhere it’s the battle of second and third with Reading taking on Birmingham in a massive 6 pointer, with you guys voting all this week in this poll, it looks like the majority (74.4%) of you would like a draw…under the proviso we win tomorrow. Thanks to all who voted! I was massively surprised at how the numbers have swollen for these polls since the first one a couple of weeks back, we’ve gone from around 40 to 188! Thanks to everyone who comes on here and gets involved!

Here’s to a good weekend!

Well, while I know the ago old adage of “you play your own games” and all that, but to be honest, I’m sure most Wolves fans will be casting an eye over to the Reading and Birmingham game next week and wondering what result will work out best for us.

Now, the case for the Birmingham win – Reading remain 7 points behind us, we either stay 6 points ahead at best, 3 points ahead of Birmingham at worst, 4 ahead of Birmingham if we draw and they win, whilst we’ll go 10 clear of Reading if we win, 8 clear if we draw, and remain 7 ahead if we lose.

Reading and Birmingham draw – We win, we go 8 points clear of Birmingham, 9 points clear of Reading, draw, then obviously it stays at 6 and 7 respectively, lose and the gap is narrowed to 5 and 6.

Reading Win – We win, we’ll be 9 points clear of Birmingham, 7 points clear of Reading, draw, we’ll be 7 clear of Birmingham, 5 clear of Reading, or lose, in which case we’ll remain 6 points clear of Birmingham, and 4 clear of Reading.

Right, get your head round that, someone, please if my midnight mental maths is wrong, tell me rather than let me make a tit of myself (mental maths isn’t my strong point at the best of times) and vote below.

I’m personally going to say a draw for those pair and a win for us would be the best case senario, keeping them both at arms length while we move two points further away, but I’ll be interested to see what everyone else thinks, if they’d prefer the psychological effect of Birmingham or Reading getting beat.

Ooooo.

So yes, vote your little hearts out.

Right at this point I’m going to say that I’m as per usual working from 6pm till 5 in the morning, but as it’s me Ma’s birthday, I’m going to be up early on the Sunday morning to travel back home, which means you might have to wait till Sunday evening for a write up, however, if I manage to get video, I’ll put that up when I wake up…or get back from work…so basically it’ll be a bit back to front. But there will still be highlights. Magic.

Wolves are at Molineux again this Saturday, with Barnsley the team travelling down for up t’north. Barnsley are a team who are currently sitting in 17th, pretty standard mid table positioning, seven points off the relegation places, nine off the play offs. They’re another team who’ve conceded more than Wolves, 29 leaking in, in 22 games, while they’ve only managed to put 23 in the other end. Their last six games show a slightly shaky record, winning only two, losing three and drawing one. On their travels they’ve not won in three, conceding five in the last three away games. Their leading scorer is Jon Macken, a player Wolves fans might remember from his days at Manchester City and Crystal Palace, I think Wolves have been linked with him a few times over the years gone by. He was a semi prolific striker when he started out at Preston North End, however when he completed his big money transfer to Manchester City he was subsequently blighted by injuries, and never really hit the same form again. Though, on his day, he’s still a danger and has 6 goals to his name this season so far.

Talking of injuries, we’ve got one of our own to worry about for Saturday, Iwelumo’s emission from the squad on Tuesday wasn’t entirely due to fatigue as we first thought, apparently in a bit of a training ground accident, he’s managed to turn his ankle, so he’s unlikely to feature again on Saturday. This will probably lead to Mick putting out a team much like that of Tuesday, with Keogh looking to build on his solid performance and offer his tireless running and effort to the cause.

Elsewhere in the league, Birmingham travel to Preston, while Reading have Norwich at home. While I’d love to think differently, we know deep down that we really do need a win to keep that breathing space at the top, as those are games that they’ll be favourites to win.

Other bits of Wolves news in a nicely rounded sentence – Wolves’ youth team has a good thing going in the FA Youth Cup, obviously mirroring the success of the senior squad this season, their success has got everyone so excited Blake has decided to say a catchy slogan, while Mick McCarthy is quick to tell all his players he might sell them all if he wants to, which will make Keogh a bit sad, because he only just got up the courage to say that he wanted to give him a selection dilemma, while Matt Hill is happy just to have finally played his first game.

Amazing.

Ooooo look a poll.

So, after the big 6 pointer weekend that was, and then wasn’t really, and then the transfer budget report, that was, and then wasn’t actually true, then with Toshack sticking his oar in, with the Hungarians coming over for tea and Mick winning manager of the month, it’s just about time for some proper actual football again. It’ll be Wolves on their travels this week for the first time in what feels like an age, and we’ll be trundling along down south for this one, in that terrible place called London. I don’t know why me and London have never got on, it’s not that I don’t like cities, I live in Birmingham after all, it’s just I don’t know, maybe Alan Partridge put it best when he said

“Go to London! I guarantee you’ll either be mugged or not appreciated. Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central and Shattered Dreams Parkway”

Pretty much sums up every visit I’ve ever had there. People are so inflated, (along with their prices), us softer midlanders are just completely swept up with their lingo, and just confused by the whole experience. So it’s off to London we go, to Loftus Road to be precise, home of Q.P.R the league’s current holders of the all mouth and no trousers trophy, holding onto that mantle ever since August (with skilful boasts such as promising that Zidane would be their next manager), they’ve worked tirelessly in constantly talking themselves up, so much in fact that prior to this game I’d assumed they were in the play-offs right behind us, so you can imagine my surprise to see them occupying our usual territory around this time of year at 10th.

They do have an impressive home record going for them, one loss in 6 and 4 wins make them seem slightly worring as a prospect, beating Birmingham at home during that little spell. Their man to look out for in front of goal is Dexter Blackstock, who’s notched up 8 goals this term in between the mess of their season so far, so he’ll definitely be one player to look out for.

Wolves have improved on their travels of late; recording four wins in the last four away days, notching up 10 goals in the process…typing those kind of stats never gets tiresome. And while we don’t have the top scorer in the league, we do have the 2nd and 4th top scorers, Blake and Iwelumo on a combined 25 goals in the league. The midweek scheduled friendly to give Craddock and Jarvis a run out was cancelled due to weather conditions, so neither of those are any closer to coming back into the squad. Don’t expect a massive overhaul from the Birmingham game.

Q.P.R are a team who have a lot of aspiration but are yet to really hit top gear consistently, but they have done in patches this season, so Wolves will need to be wary of them, they’re capable of getting a result against us especially on home turf. Wolves will have to play the football we know their capable of, defend well and hit them on the counter.

You’ll be able to watch this one on sky too, which is always nice eh?

Fingers cross, it’s a 17:20 Kick off in case any of you are going to watch it…don’t go to the pub too early eh?

Ooooh arrr, a poll. Not one which will set the world a blaze, yet, let’s see how you do. You’ve got till kick off on Saturday to make your prediction!

How do you think we'll do?
( surveys)

Yeah, now you’re excited, this is where the money is. Right? Basically you’ve got till kick off to guess, I’ve narrowed it down to win/loss/draw, if it goes well I might turn it into a regular feature and include different scorelines. So go on, put your money (not really) where your mouth is (fingers are…clicking things)

Hopefully, this will work. If it does I might make it a “feature” bells and whistles time isn’t it? I don’t know, let’s say 25 or more votes and I’ll do it again?
