Wolves 0-2 West Ham: Highlights (and Hope)

By: Daryl | August 16th, 2009

Daryl here, still filling the (temporary) void, this time with video.

One of the great things about Wolves being back in the Premier League is that video highlights are suddenly a lot easier to come by. The MotD highlights of yesterday’s game are embedded above.

I watched a somewhat choppy stream yesterday and saw an impressive amount of effort (especially in terms of last ditch defending) and a few promising flashes of quality from Nenad Milijaš.

But the defensive mistakes (especially that tackle Jody Craddock fluffed) and the lack of ruthlessness in front of goal had me a little worried. Hate to say it, but shades of what the Baggies did last year maybe?

There’s still Kevin Doyle to come back at one end, Berra at the other (plus there’s always a chance Zubar could improve and impress?) and Kightly to add to that right flank. So need to start panicking just yet. Next game is coming up fast: Away to Wigan on Tuesday night. Let’s hope we at least give Wigan a better test than the Villa did…

Over here in North America, we give players who are new to the top leagues a few games to find themselves and adjust. I think that is why MM used up his substitution allotment – to give as many players as possible their first taste of the league.
There are positives that can be taken from the game, like Milijas’ performance.
I wouldn’t read too much into the poorer performances because of the first game jitters.
And, as you said, there are players who are injured who might have a big effect on the offense.
