Wolves Vs Sheffield Wednesday – Match Preview
By: Toby | March 6th, 2009
So it’s off the Hillsborough stadium with a record of one win in one (sounds a bit better eh?) as Wolves look to get that old Promotion ship back on course. There are a lot easier places to go in search of a win, especially as Sheffield Wednesday have recently made Reading sweat for their three points, having to rely on Kevin Doyle to bail them out late on. Talking on relying on one player to bail us out, that’d be our 22 goal superman Ebanks Blake, who’ll be setting his sights on a Sheffield Wednesday team who’ve only conceded twelve goals at home this season, with only Reading and Doncaster maintaining a better defence at home, and we all knew how hard those games were.
We’ll be buoyed by the fact that we’ve scored thirty goals on our travels this season, more than any other team this season in the Championship and indeed, by the fact that we’ve finally broken that “one win in eleven” hoodoo. Sheffield Wednesday offer a challenge, but a challenge that if we play the way I know we can, we’ll be able to come away with a result which will further steady the promotion push. I think Wednesday’s gaffer Brian Law puts it best in this neat little soundbite.
“I spoke to Mick a few weeks ago and he says they have put themselves under pressure because they almost ran away with it. Some fans were calling for his head, how ludicrous is that? I fell off my chair laughing when he told me.
“I am sure that Mick will have them wound up for this game, we’ve not historically done well against Wolves of late so it would be nice to get one over them.”
Ludicrously negative Wolves fans? Scandalous.
With Birmingham taking on Southampton and Reading playing Plymouth away both of them are facing tough games too, if we’re being honest with ourselves it’s come to that point in the season where there are no easy games anymore, nearly every team has something to play for, there are thirty points still available and everyone wants a piece, whether that to stay up, push for the play offs, or secure promotion. Everyone’s got an agenda; it’s just down to who wants it enough.
Do Wolves want it enough? Well, after getting that elusive win in midweek I’d say that at the very least there are signs that we may well indeed want to get promoted. Kightly was running like a man possessed, Hennessey showed glimpses of his quality and single headedly (literally) winning us two extra points, Ebanks once again found the net, we kept a clean sheet. A clean sheet. Can we combine these elements again? Let’s hope so, because without a doubt all this team needs is confidence in themselves, and once that comes back it’s just a matter of keeping their heads and playing their own game. It’ll be interesting to see who comes in for the suspended Henry, but as always second guessing Mick McCarthy is a thankless task, so I’ll just wait for the team sheet like the rest of you. Predictions? It’ll be a low scoring affair, can’t see us keeping a clean sheet, it’s just not in our set up, so another 2-1 prediction from me, Ebanks brace? Why not.
Fingers crossed we can break on through to the 70 point mark tomorrow!

i think this could be another nerve jangler sp?, the palace game put 70 years on me and we were fairly comfortable in that. If im being honest id take a point against a team who are good at their own place, but as long as we can keep it tight you with our prowess up front we can hopefully sneak all 3.
Team wise is henry suspended?? ifso despite my dislike of him id would play quashie for 60 mins in the middle (if hes fit, i also only say 60 cus having seen him this year hes not fit enough to go further) as he is a similar player to henry (who blatently needs a break after playing every game almost)
Also i would like to see mick stick with iwelumo upfront after he has sounded fairly bright in his last 2 games and hopefully he will cap his decent performances with a goal or two.Posted from

Yeah Henry clocked up booking number 10 over the weekend and therefore is suspended for two games, I’d like to see Jones get a game, but I’m not sure as to his availability at the moment.

We will win this 3-1 but because we are THE WOLVES we will go a goal down on 20 min giving us all a heart attack!!!
Think Reading and Bham will win also this Sat so on it goes, tension and pressure before ultimate victory and promotion.
Happy Days.Posted from
