Wolves Vs Sheffield United – Match Preview
By: Toby | December 24th, 2008
It’s only a short one from me, understandably. As it’s Christmas Eve, and I’m going to try my best to give the internet a rest on Christmas Day. However, as we get back from last minute shopping trips, wrap the last of the presents, and realise you ordered your turkey in Kilos and not pounds, let’s have some football related statistics. Right, as we’re now starting to play return legs of these fixtures we’ve got some head to heads to talk about, it wasn’t long ago since we managed to beat Sheffield United 3-1 in their own back garden. That game was less memorable for the goals than it was for their team trying to singlehandedly dispatch our squad like a group of loutish pub brawling thugs, and then have the cheek to call us dirty after the game. They have a point, none of their players got a booking that day (Still, I don’t know how) and we got a couple….which were all for time wasting. Although I’m pretty sure it wasn’t time wasting from United which broke Kightly’s nose, left Ikeme needing stitches, or knocked David Edwards unconscious. So needless to say it was a “heated” encounter.
I expect the return to be nothing but the same. Interesting stats time, Wolves have the best home record, or one of the best at least in the league right now, only losing once, drawing once and winning ten games. In the process they’ve scored twenty seven goals and conceded just 9 (under a goal a game). We’ve not conceded at all in three games, and are the joint league top scorers on 51 goals. In contrast United have lost three of their last five away games, but despite that stat have a better away record than their home form, so expect them to clam up slightly, they’ll probably be playing for a draw.
In all respects a draw would suit us too tomorrow, Sheffield are a good team when they want to be, and are hard to beat. If we do win, it’ll be by the odd goal, I’ll say another clean sheet, and a 1-0. Kightly to score before sitting out the Blackpool game, serving his 5 yellow suspension.
Hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas time, and listening to Slade, there’s no other band quite so West Midlandy at Christmas, always reminds me of home.
Tarra-a-bit!
