Wolves Vs Nottingham Forest – Match Preview
By: Toby | March 17th, 2009
A match review for Saturday on a Tuesday? This can mean only one thing, yes, that’s right, I’m off to Cardiff again. Well, I’m doing a mini tour as I’m ending up back in Wolverhampton for mother’s day, all of this means that A) I’m afraid I shan’t be able to do a live cast for Saturday’s game and B) I may well be a bit late in writing it up and delivering you highlights. But aside from that it’ll be service as usual as I’m sure you’ll be able to entertain yourselves in the comments box until I get back!
Right then, Wolves are on their travels again this week, which in recent times has been a far more successful hunting patch than at home, where we’re getting decidedly jittery, when we play away we also don’t tend to take so many Keogh bashers and general knuckle dragging troglodytes as per usual Wolves home game so the whole vibe of the support is far more supportive, after all, who takes time out of their life to travel to boo a team, it really doesn’t make sense.
And so to Nottingham Forest, who I was going to say are decidedly better than we last played them in a 5-1 hammering at home early on in the season, but yet, as those words were forming in my mind they went and got utterly “raked†by Burnley 5-0 over the weekend. Meaning all semblance of guessing what’s going to happen in this game went out the window, there are now simply too many what ifs the to whole game. I mean really it could go one of two ways, Wolves, off the back of an excellent Saturday all round go to Nottingham brimming with confidence to face a team who’s utterly despondent, we run rampant, slightly over excited fans start pre ordering bunting. Or, Wolves go to Nottingham a little bit too confident and a little bit too cocky against a Nottingham Forest team which has been on the receiving end of the hairdryer and been roasted in training all week with a point to prove. Nottingham win, Wolves fans start stocking up on painkillers and whiskey.
Now personally I know I’ll be hoping for the first option, it’s far more favourable. However this is the business end of the season and as we found out with Charlton teams that don’t want to get relegated tend to dig their heels in against us, as a point against us is a result in their books. We’re going to have to be patient, both as a team and as a supporting set. I’m pretty sure it’s going to take a while to break them down, but once we do I think it’s vital that we take advantage and score and score again. I don’t want a repeat of Saturday every weekend for the next month and a half, I don’t think I can handle it, yet I know deep down that that’s probably what I’m going to get. It’s all quite exciting.
Stats for those of you who like working things out. Nottingham have scored 20 times this season at home in 19 games, which is pretty steady going only they’ve also leaked 24 in the other end, resulting in only 5 wins, 7 draws and 7 loses. Wolves on their travels have scored 31 yet conceded 26. So while they have a slightly better defence, we’re far far more potent upfront, raking in 10 wins 3 draws and 6 loses. We’re essentially a win or lose team away from home, and hopefully this will be a case of the former. Of course that’ll be helped by man of the moment and one man goal machine Ebanks Blake who’ll have his eyes set on adding to his 24 goals this season, his Forest counterpart Earnshaw has weighed in with 9 goals thus far this season…so really the signs are looking good, just don’t say that too loudly or let anyone hear you being positive.
Right then, I’ll be back roughly Sunday evening, keep this place alive until then if anything amazing happens and I’ll do a massive catch up post in return. Also, to sweeten the deal here’s a video of all of Wolves goals throughout January and February…I know there weren’t that many, but it’s still fun to watch them go in.
Until we meet again!

got to hope for an early wolves goal to keep the pressure on Forest. Even though our defence has tightened up a bit lately ,I’m not a purist and I feel our best tactic now is scoring more goals than the other team! We can worry about conceding goals when we get back in the premiership.

I had a dream we got promoted last night…second to last game of the season. Reading caught Blues, Cardiff went up in the play-offs.

Sorry. That was off topic. I think Wolves are going to continue to be rejuvenated by a bubbling Iwelumo who, as someone who appears to be a big time confidence player, is on the up I think. 2-1 Wolves. Iwelumo (if fit) and isn’t Kightly due a goal?

well if all the players who are due a goal chip in over the next few games we’ll be laughing. Its a dodgy game but all the pressure is on forest and we have to take advantage.

True that. A Karl Henry hat-trick it is then.
