Wolves Vs Norwich – Match Preview
By: Toby | February 2nd, 2009
And so to the second home game in quick succession this week, and it’ll be Norwich that’ll be making the long trip up to Molineux. Right, first off, there is a very good chance that this could get called off, not for the pitch being frozen as we’ve got under soil heating but if you’re to believe the weather reports we might well be living in an arctic tundra come Tuesday, and there’s not much the under soil heating can do about that, so, presumably, as long there isn’t an outbreak of snow on Antarctic proportions, we should still get a game come Tuesday.
Wolves will be looking to build on their first win in the league in five games with another good display against Norwich (currently lying in 20th) the order of the day with this one. Plus, the game’s got that extra spice due to the fact when we last played them (albeit with a severely weakened squad) we were completely done over 5-2, but that was then, and this is now. We’ll be at home for a start, and our home record has been fantastic this season, only losing twice. This wouldn’t be such an issue were it not for Norwich’s terrible recent away record, which reads something like D L L L L L which I’m sure you’ll agree is pretty dire, in fact they haven’t won away from home since the 22nd of November, and that was against Nottingham Forrest, the league’s whipping boys.
More stats to make you feel better about going into this game, their top scorer Lita, doesn’t play for them anymore, as he’s gone back to Reading. Next in the list of their top scorers is Lupoli, who has a mighty 4 goals to his name (Who now also doesn’t play for them). Compared to Ebanks, who notched his 17th league goal over the weekend, the difference in fire power is clear and obvious, in fact, Neil Collins has scored the same amount of league goals as their now current highest scorer, Lee Croft. On a slightly interesting note, it seems that they have taken Alan (Nearly signed for us but turns out his bones are made of paper) Gow on loan for the rest of the season. Sod’s law dictates he’ll score, so we’ll have to score two.
So the big question you’re all not really asking, “Toby what do all these stats mean?” Well, it means that we should really win this game, with Birmingham’s game against Crystal Palace postponed and with Reading not playing till Sunday there really is an opportunity to go anywhere up to seven points clear at the top by the end of play on Tuesday. Let’s hope we can take it.
New signing Christophe Berra is a good shout for a debut, most likely from the bench if everything is going our way, he’s a top performer, and should do well for us.
Prior to the game there will be a minute’s silence for Paul Birch who sadly lost his battle with cancer on Monday, let’s hope it’s well observed.
Well then, best of luck!
