Wolves Vs Derby – Match Preview
By: Toby | April 12th, 2009
I had some great plans for this preview! I really did, but I’ve just been called into work and I’m going to be in till half 6…meaning I’ll get home at about seven in the morning on bank holiday monday, ah we’re all slaves to the pound/dollar/euro eh?
So this is a bit of a diet preview, accept my apologies.
Wolves go to Derby looking for nothing less than a win to keep them in the driving seat of the division. I for one think they’ve got enough in the tank despite the absence once again of Iwelumo, Blake and Kightly. Vokes proved himself to be more than just a super sub on Friday and it’s only a matter of time before the big guns of Harwood start firing. Derby, a side not to be underestimated, especially at home, effectively mark the first team we have to play in these final games with nothing to play for, they’re unlikely to be relegated and they’re certainly not going to bother the play-offs this season. But as always, beware the team with nothing to play for, just look at Charlton on the weekend.
Right then, work beckons, I hope your bank holiday goes wonderfully, I think I’ll wake up just in time for the 3pm kick off, I’m going to go for a 2-1 for Wolves, but what do you think?
Once again, sorry for short changing you!
Normal service shall be resumed shortly!
Tarra-a-bit!

If we can continue our new (old) trend of scoring early then I feel we are on a role, everyone’s due a goal, keogh, harewood… I think if we play positive, the 3 points are ours and we will edge derby on goals possibly by a more comfortable margin than 2-1. Shit am I sounding negative?! I know we are gonna do it but the nerves are still getting to me.

Im going to class this one as a 0-0 draw…but blues and sheff utd to draw too…meaning we’ll need on ewin for the big P

For me, the big thing about the Blues’ result is that it allows the squad to go into today’s game knowing that they are still top of the table at the end of the day. The world doesn’t end if they lose, and I think that helps with the nerves and makes it more likely they’ll get the result.

You’re right on that one CdM it does take some pressure off the shoulders of the lads, hah, (do you have a name I can actually call you by the way?) but to be fair I can’t think of a game with more pressure surrounding it than Friday just gone, that was a must win and they really stepped up to the grade and did us proud, I’d love to see that same attitude again!
I don’t think we’ll get that same instant breakthrough today though…ha, well you can’t always score after 40 seconds!!

Derby have been a much better side at home since Clough took over so it’s definately not going to be easy. I’d be over the moon with a scrappy win today. If blues draw today i may have to do a lap around the block nude in celebration. Harewood needs to pull his finger out. I thought he was here to prove a point to his manager, but he’s no impact at all on the pitch.

Looking at things around the half-time mark, it’s hard to believe that Sheffield Utd won’t beat a 10-man Forest. The Blues a man down and a goal down is nice to see, but we know only too well that they’re capable of scoring two with 10 men. Which leads to the conclusion that it would be really good if we could win. There. How about that for deep insightful half-time analysis? : -)

Now, THIS is what they should have been doing in Feb, picking up points while others were losing theirs. My God, that finishing line look mighty mighty close now!

YES!!! I think my half-time analysis was spot on, by the way. Admittedly, I was wrong in my predictions that the Blades and the Blues would win, but I was definitely right in my statement that it would be really good if we won…
Great, great day for Keogh, as well.

Just arrived back in Århus, Denmark after a week at home. First thing I did was check the web site! YES!!!! Took the wife and kids to the Mol for the Soton game. Photographs in front of Billy Wright (who was he then, Dad?) followed by 20 minutes of excitement and 70 minutes of yawning but the finishing line is in sight. WE ARE WOLVES!!!!

Is it 3 more points and champions not just promotion as only Bham could get as many points then and they will never catch our Goal Difference?

Hi Toby
Just wanted to say thanks for the clips on this site. I was lucky here in Malta to watch Wolves games twice last week – about 20 of us in a pub on Monday against Bgham and via web last Friday. Hope you can provide a clip of today’s match. We are very near to the promised land.
Today was a tense thing – especially when you are only watching text updates!

YESYESYESYESYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There’s no way we’ll give this up now, 6 points clear with 9 to play for, even Wolves can’t mess that up!!!!!
I’m really pleased for Andy Keogh, like I’ve said before, he’s a hard worker, but the goals never seem to come easy for him, he really deserves his success today.
Is it getting to ahead of myself to say that Newcastle and Middlesbrough have a few decent players we could try to sign? Huth, Wheater, Butt, Nolan, all good Premiership players to fill the defence and midfield. And of course, Owen and Ebanks-Blake up front anyone?
I know we aren’t up yet, but by now even the most pessimistic Wolves fans must be dreaming of trips to Old Trafford, Anfield and all the others, we’re back where we belong!!!
