Wolves Vs Birmingham
By: Toby | January 12th, 2009It’s Wolves Vs Birmingham in the Eon Cup tomorrow, as long as Birmingham have been and put out enough hot water bottles on the pitch.
I’d expect a b team mostly, with some first teamers in there too.
I don’t really care much for this Cup, or any cups this season, I’d quite like a Birmingham win. So they can continue to play more and more games (As they can’t play when there’s a frost), and we can focus on the league. I’m sure if Birmingham do win they’ll probably declare it a national holiday in Birmingham, but I like some Wolves fans out there, really don’t care.
Read my last proper post about the Eon Cup here.
Bristol on Saturday! Now that’s a game to get excited for!
Tarra-a-bit!

I’ve got mixed feelings Toby. If I had a crystal ball and it showed that if Wolves win out they go on to lose to Boro….well I’d have to agree better to avoid fixture congestion….however if somehow they could go on a dream run and make it to wembley….

Would you swap an FA Cup win for promotion though?

I was telling my mate who’s Newcastle fan that I want out the FA Cup ASAP after he was excited for us to go out and beat Boro. He couldn’t understand that promotion was more important than the cup to me. Maybe it’s the lack of second flight football for most of his life like I’ve had but it surprised me as I’ve not heard any Wolves fans really wanting to beat the Blues tonight.
1-0 with them scoring in the last 10 mins. Actually… 2-1, would like to see Vokes score for us.

I’d like us to play great, have two goals ruled out for a bad offside call, and for them to have a really dodgey penalty call in the last minute of extra time, which is shanked in.
But either way, I’d like out.
Sadly.
I can understand why a Newcastle fan would be confused to be fair, all they’ve got is the cup, and they’ve been waiting even longer than us to win the thing again!

No wouldn’t trade Promotion for lifting the cup… but I might take 2nd place or promotion though the play offs and the cup over winning the Championship and going out this round….too bad you can’t actually make these deals with the football Gods.

I agree that the cup’s not important but we could do with a boost and a win tonight would provide that. A loss just increases the, albeit unecessary, gloom. A good performance from one or two squad players would be welcome as well.

It would only increase fan doom and gloom, the players know what the real goal is, the cup aint where it’s at.

I’m a fan so fan doom and gloom is what makes me, well, gloomy . And I think the recent history of Wolves shows fan doom and gloom can very readily transfer itself to the team. I tell myself that this set of players are different, they’re not scarred by past failures so moaning from the stands won’t affect them but they’re a young, inexperienced bunch – so it could get under their skin.
I’m not being pessimistic, (though deep down, I just know we’re going to blow it!!!) I just reckon a win tonight will make the world a brighter place. For me anyway. I’m happy to then go and get spanked by Boro.

Deep down it’d pain me for them to lose, I’m just thinking of the slightly bigger picture, and if come the end of the season, we put in a lacklustre performance against Doncaster on the last game of the season, because we’ve lost some players through injuries due to an uccuessful cup run. I’d be banging my head off the desk in utter fustration.

of course the FA cup … the greatest trophy on earth … even if it meant we would not get to the premier in 10 years!!!
