Wolves Target – Oguchi Onyewu – In Video
By: Toby | May 18th, 2009Well they say a picture paints a thousand words, so a video must be thrice as good.
We’re apparently in for the huge CB Oguchi Onyewu, who’ll be available on a free from Standard Liege in the summer. I’ll give this rumour a bit of room to develop, after all, it is but a rumour (and I know it’s not a new one, I’ve only just found the video), but I certainly wouldn’t say no.

Looks good to me. We’re going to need beefing up at the back.

As an American Wolves fan I’d be thrilled if Onyewu signed with us. He’s a better player than he showed for a sub-par Newcastle defense.
IMO: Great in the air and at shutting down the oppositions target man. Similar to Lescott, but more physically intimidating. He’ll also contribute a few goals each season from set pieces (indirectly of course, not taking them!).

Can’t go wrong with that, especially if it’s a free transfer.

A centre-back considered too bad to sign by Newcastle?! Don’t even go there Mick and Jez! Saying that, Onyewu’s always impressed me whenever I’ve seen him representing Standard Liege and the United States, and who knows; if Newcastle had taken a punt on him and allowed him to develop (as he has done in Liege) within their team they could have saved that £10m they squandered on Marc Bolan for starters.
I always find it incredible how highly you Wolverines rate Elokobi by the by. I know it’s rash to judge a player on just one performance, but the last time Colchester played at Ninian Park ‘Big George’ was an absolute shambles. It appeared more than just a bad day at the office too, a distinct lack of well, anything other than being as intimidating as a doorman.Posted from

I think that’s the beauty of him. For the same reason why a sledgehammer is more fun than maths.

The move is apparently DOA. Well according to the E&S http://www.expressandstar.com/2009/05/19/wolves-move-on-from-onyewu/
Expect him to sign then…

Hey! Git yer eyes off him! As a Fulham fan, if Hangeland goes, he’s our target to replace him.

*when Hangeland goes. Yeah, well we’re not in the running anymore, it’s like a property chain, he’s maybe being lined up with Fulham then, which means you might be watching Hangeland’s last game for you on the weekend.

as for the gooch, he did OK at Newcastle, played brilliantly and totally outmarked and out-fought Peter Crouch when we drew with Liverpool a couple seasons ago. Apart from that he couldn’t stay on his feet, which was a bit worrying to say the least! However, was better than Boumsong, but suppose who isn’t better than Boumsong!

Come on then boys. What are we thinking about the transfer situation so far? Are we being realistic by not splashing the cash?

how can we ’splash the cash’ yet. championship has only just ended, as has the premiership and most of the european leagues. clubs take there time looking for players, players take there time to wait to hear what clubs are interested. I wouldnt be suprised if we didnt sign anyone until mid july!

My point was more in terms of what the clubis saying about not forking out for the likes of Huddlestone, Alan Smith (who I think would slot in nicely at Molineux) et al. I’m personally all in favour of clubs taking ‘their’ time to find the right targets, but just wondering if the club will set itself a super tough task with too rigid a transfer policy. If we’re looking at sticking with young and hungry with the addition of ‘Premiership experience’, there’s surely a premium to pay for that type of talent…

£8 mill for Huddlestone though, and I’m not really a fan of Alan Smith. I think we will pay up for quality players but im glad for the moment that we aren’t considering huge payments for average players. huddlestone for £4-5 mill max!

Sam – agreed, we need a few £4-5 millioners rather than two or three 8+ millions. Nonetheless, still reckon Alan Smith would have been a belter

Soooooo it looks like we’re one of two clubs going in for Fortune who made a massive impact at the shit towards the end of the season? Any views? I think he could be a good signing for us as he has alot of skill and determination to win
Anyone got high quality picture of wolves lifting the trophy?
