Wolves Crest Plea Update

By: Toby | March 26th, 2009

I’ve just received an email from the Head of Retail at Wolves saying we can indeed not have our club crest back on the site. That one there on the left, by no means can we show that sign on the left…ever again, or I’ll face death by a mauling from Wolfie or something equally as terrible. Though more likely they’ll just shut us down, which would be more counter productive for them than anything but let’s not get bogged down with all of that. This has made me quite sad as you can probably tell, I really thought Wolves might be the team that said yes, but alas no, they fall under the banner of teams that don’t quite understand the internet. So there we are, if you want to email them it won’t get you very far but info@wolves.co.uk is the place to go if you want to have a moan.

All together now,

BOOOOOOO!

Update for all of you who asked

Thank you for your email

The club badge is the property of the club, in the same way that you would not be allowed to use a coca cola or McDonalds logo.

As a club we invest a significant amount of money in managing and promoting our own website, and if we allowed you to use the official club crest supporters could feel that it is officially endorsed by the club, when obviously we would have no control over the content

Good luck with your endeavors

Peter Pridmore

Because you’re all idiots and might think you’re on Wolves World basically.

Why don’t we all ‘write to jez’ that should get the point across if 20 odd people all write the same thing in to the programme!

Does that mean they don’t let the crest be used by newspapers too?

No, they’re probably thick enough to think that newspapers are real media and a blog like The Offside isn’t. Too bad. I like Wolves, but this is a poor decision on their part. Just plain bad business.

What’s the reasoning? Wanting to maintain control over how the “brand” is used? Bit shortsighted.

    Say they’re dicks.

Nah, I jest, write from the heart. The general theme seems to be that they’re doing more harm in taking me out than good, and that they’re idiots…but put better.

That’s bullocks! (not how we say in our language, but ours is improper)

They’re certainly not being serious. NO you bloody Wolves, your badge is in no way like the logos of Coke or McDonalds! Nobody gives all their heart to McDonalds or Coke every week. Nobody travels through wind and rain to support these brands (building the dramma here). Nobody decorates their homes with Coke or McDonals’ colours and cherishes them (that would be perverted really). Nobody… cares for them at all. Football is NOT ONLY a product and most of all it’s football for people, not people for football. It’s such a disgraceful approach they have. And the shame’s even bigger, because it’s a team with passionate support and big traditions, not some MK Dons. I’m with you Toby and should there be any contest for new Wolves logo, I’ll gladly take part :)
