Match Preview – Wolves Vs Q.P.R
By: Toby | April 16th, 2009
I think we’ve all forgotten there’s the small matter of some football games to be playing, I know I have. Saturday sees the visit of QPR, a team who in recent weeks seem to have been pressing the self destruct button so vigorously it’s a wonder they’ve not completely destroyed themselves already. Despite the obscene wealth of their collective owners ( I think one of them is actually in the top five wealthiest men in the world) they’ve not really invested in the team (yet) and have instead just set about hiring managers and undermining them, before eventually firing them.
A perfect example would be shipping out the club’s stop scorer behind the manager’s back during the club’s attempt to nick a play off place in the last few games. Without Blackstock they’ve been patchy, as you’d expect, we wouldn’t have loaned out Ebanks with seven games to go would we? Wolves will be looking to exploit this end of season turmoil and QPR’s less than impressive recent away record (without a win in 6) to secure the win which we all so desperately want to see.
I’ve not heard much on the fitness of Ebanks Blake, so I’d assume we’ll see a similar team to that which took down Derby on Monday, though, if anything does happen on that one I’ll update you when I find out.
Elsewhere in Wolves-land (not Wolves World…) Mick McCarthy astounds everyone in the media by being pleased by his team being a win away from Promotion, The Express and Star are churning out Wolves news on the hour, and Harewood is a happy camper.
Score predictions? I think QPR are a team in disarray and Wolves are a team hungry to finish in style, these two factors coming together mixed with my boundless optimism mean I’m predicting a 3-0 for Wolves, with Harewood finally getting off the mark…with style?
Let me know your predictions! Sorry this is a bit brief, I think I’m just a bit too nervous…I just want the game to happen now, the build up is killing me.
Fingers crossed!
Tarra-a-bit!

I’ll go with 2-0 as well. The Wolves site says SEB has passed himself fit. If he’s available, would you play him or stick with the team that won on Monday?

I’d stick with the team from Monday with Ebanks as a very good substitute option in the last 30 minutes if it’s not going our own way!

i reckon 0-0, i dont think it will be easy qpr dont let many in away from home and they were very good during ainsworths first caretaker stint earlier in the season, i also think knowing wolves and knowing the fact we all expect them to seal it on saturday, they will probably make us wait another week.
the anticipation is building so much now, ive already got my promotion beers in, in anticipation of a ceebration on saturday night, CUMON WOLVES

I going to sit on the fence and say 3-1 to wolves, with QPR taking an early lead and wolves leaving it late in the day to score the three. Id say vokes and another keogh brace too! But theres that little niggling doubt in my head saying that the players will be taken away with the carnival atmosphere and we’ll chuck it away this match. Heaven forbid if the north bank start singing

In the spirit of the true Wolves fan, who can see a cloud whenever there’s a silver lining, here’s how we win promotion and the Championship in truly anticlimactic style:
Saturday: Wolves and Birmingham both lose. As a consequence, Wolves are *almost* guaranteed promotion, but not quite (Birmingham could win their last two and Wolves lose their last two by enough to overturn the goal difference gap.)
Monday: Sheffield United lose. Wolves are promoted (but we basically knew that already). Wolves are almost champions but not quite.
Sat 25th: Wolves lose, Birmingham draw. Wolves are champions (but we basically knew that already).
So, we get promoted on a day when we aren’t even playing, and win the Championship on a day when we lose away from home.
BUT — that’s not my prediction! I’m going to go with the optimists here, and say we beat QPR, and win the Championship in style at Molineux.

2-0 to wolves. Nervy first half, then 2 goals from SEB, who has been brought on as a supersub for Harwood to break the deadlock.
Blues will lose on Saturday, Blades to draw and we’ll be champions as well.
We’ll also win our remaining games and finish with 92 points (McCarthy’s target, I believe).

I’m guessing S.E.B. will rested on Saturday. Let’s face it, in the last 2 games we’ve scored 6 goals! Why risk him when we’re in such a good position. If (and a big if) we dont make it on Saturday, there’s still time for his impact.

Toby – R u covering the game on Saturday and what times KO? Cheers
PS – you ought to start a “shopping list” poll for the off season acquisitions and see who gets closest to the right names and the amount spent. Just a suggestion.
