International Report/Tittle Tattle.
By: Toby | November 20th, 2008
So, unless I’m being lied to by the internet (heaven forefend) all of our players have come back unscathed from their midweek international foray. We were helped massively as Mancienne didn’t do much more than look a bit excited on the subs bench all through the England game, which on a side note was rather fun to watch. Scott Carson carrying on his fine England form, it must be all those goals he’s letting in for Sandwell…he’s more used to picking the ball out of his net than saving it obviously. Other players seemed to have had middling games, Iwelumo seemingly not forgiven by Scottish fans because he couldn’t score against a team ranked 27 places above them, luckily though, only getting 45 minutes. Also with 45 minutes under his belt was Dave Edwards, who I half watched on the live stream, playing well and linking up with Ramsey a few times, he’ll also have fresh legs. Keogh got roughly an hour under his belt, while Carlos Edwards had a full game, which coupled with a long flight back will be slightly worrying, though buoyed slightly by the fact that he got himself an assist and looked lively throughout.
In the U21 set up, a place it seems where “managers” suddenly realise that there are good, young, English players not playing in the Premiership reserve teams. Stearman played a blinder, so much so Pearce decided to use a collection of massive football clichés to describe his delight, and a rather confusing one about the contents of his locker. Kightly also had a decent game by all accounts and Blake made his first appearance, getting a good 20 minutes under his belt.
Elsewhere on the Wolves rumour mill, and general paper fodder we have the “news” that we’d rather keep Edwards for the entire period we were promised, Mancienne, obviously spending too much time with John Terry says he sees his future with Chelsea….Just like Johnson, Wright Phillips, Duff….yeah. Also Hennessey “BREAKS HIS SILENCE” I wasn’t aware he’d been silenced personally, but there’s also a nice article about the big man Matt Murray.
Right, get your chops round those links and you’ll have a nice pre match stat-a-thon tomorrow.
Tarra-a-bit!
EDIT!
Living proof that it’s not safe to leave the house longer than a few hours as a Wolves fan, Carlos Edwards has indeed had to return to Sunderland, with some, if not a lot of solace given that Jarvis is on his way back, thought not as soon as we’d all like. Bit of a selection headache come Saturday, and a bit of a disjointed team for the next few big games ahead.

Is it worth Sam Vokes going out on loan? No point in letting his career stagnate just as he was starting to enjoy himself surely?

I’d say yes to any young player not getting games going on loan and getting regular playing time, but it’s getting to that point in the season where if we lose Iwelumo or Blake for long periods, we’ve only got Keogh and Vokes, and Keogh is increasingly filling a midfield role. So unfortunately it looks like we need him…but not desperately. It’s really only down to Blake and Iwelumo being on fire infront of goal, he’ll get his chance, may that be through other’s suspension or injury. Then he just needs to take it, he looked sharp when I saw him in the U21s, so I don’t think it’s effecting him all that much, we’ve got a competative system down in our reserves, they play every week behind closed doors.

It might be competitive but it’ll never fully compensate for missing out on action that has summat riding on it. Bit gutted we missed out on him, but you seemed to steal a march on everyone. Walsall could do with an injection of something and obviously Vokes wouldn’t have to up sticks if that option was taken. Maybe I’ll give my good friend Jimmy Mullen a ring and tell him to consider Vokes.

I honestly don’t think we’ve got enough cover in that area to let him go though, he’s going to start getting twenty minutes at the end of games once they all start piling up, we’ve got Sheff United, Birmingham, QPR and Derby coming up, that’s a hell of a few games, we’re going to need all our squad for those.
