Higginbotham Set To Sign For Wolves?
By: Matt | August 19th, 2008
It seems like that great Wolves tradition of signing Sunderland defenders is set to continue, with rumours of a £1.25 million bid for Sunderand and centre-half Danny Higginbotham. Wolves have apparently agreed a fee with Sunderland and Higginbotham is currently in talls with the club. I first heard this rumour late on Sunday night, from a contact at Molineux, now it seems like the Daily Mirror have picked up on the story. It was however, by no means a done deal, Higginbotham it would seem, needs some convincing to drop back down to the Championship.
Wolves have been searching for a solid and experienced centre half all summer, and with Craddock out for a possible 5 or 6 weeks following Saturday’s injury it would seem that Wolves have decided to act sooner rather than later.
My verdict? If it happens, it would be a great signing. Solid and experienced, just the type of player we need at the back of a very young and talented team. Higginbotham’s stats can be found here

I think you’d be better off with Gary Breen to be honest.

I was in favour of giving Breen another year, he’s a good captain and pretty solid if a little slow. On the other hand, last season he found it difficult to shake off injuries and towards the end of the season he made some key errors which cost us crucial points. After a bad mistake that allowed Southampton an injury time equaliser at Molineux he came to blows with McCarthy…and that was it. They both released a statement saying it was nothing and were friends again, but he never played for Wolves again, and was never offered a new contract.
