Ah if only we still did highlights…

By: Toby | April 10th, 2009

Well I for one didn’t see that happening. I was all for a nervy, tight game which would have me on the edge of my seat, chewing my fingernails and generally being bad company for the rest of the weekend. As it was, the game was done and dusted by the end of the first half, well, saying that, it was pretty much done and dusted in the 6th minute. For any Wolves fans still suffering the hangover from Monday’s abysmal performance were soon made to question what they were worried about as an early corner resulted in Vokes powering in a header from close range.

What relief, what jubilation! But no sooner had the old devil on the shoulder started to put that thought into your head that Southampton were going to get back into this one then…BANG. 2-0. Jody Craddock this time, the method much the same, a short corner this time, cut back to Jones who crossed once again into the six yard box for Craddock to glance in his header to double Wolves lead on the 6th minute. All the goal action was subsequently wrapped up on the 19th minute after Jones fired in an utterly venomous penalty on the 19th. And my my was that a penalty which the entirety of the Golden half of Molineux was wishing in, Jones delivered, they’ll be replacing the net on Monday.

Vokes played very well, rewarding Mick for his faith in starting him with a fine goal, Edwards continued his fine work in filling Kightly’s ever so sprightly boots. He’s far more workman like, you’re never thinking he’ll provide that flash of brilliance, but he’s a solid performer, which was evident today. I was once again impressed by Berra, solid, won a lot in the air and had the Southampton forwards tucked firmly in his pocket for most of the game.

And so there we go, three points in the bag, five points clear of third and four games to go. My goodness me it’s getting close up there, but we’re the best place to be at the moment. Sheffield won tonight meaning they’re temporarily second, leapfrogging Birmingham due to their superior goal difference. Birmingham play tomorrow against bottom side Charlton and will need nothing less than a win, which we all know is no forgone conclusion at the Valley.

Ah what a day eh? What a day. Happy Easter to you all, and I’ll be seeing you on Monday for the Derby game!

Oh…what is this doing lying around here?

Weird.

Sheffield have Burnley and Swansea who will be in the shake up at the end of the season, so I can see those being really tough games, and Birmingham as we know have Reading on the last day. Ideally we’ll go into the last game of the season not having to worry about anything other than finishing first or second…but I’ll not get ahead of myself!

Only 19% of people said it would be Vokes and Keogh, on that showing, it seems foolish to consider anything else. Obviously we want Ebanks back, but without him we were made to try different options, which worked well for us today.

I’m so proud of those golden boys. they worked their socks of in the first half and in the second half when southampton changed things around I thought we contained them well. Harewood didn’t make a great impact when he came on but I believe he’ll show some class in the games to come. Hennessey also impressed me considering his confidence must have been very low from monday.

I’ve no idea how I stumbled across this site but its by far the best blog.

Harewood’s just ring rusty, he’ll find his touch soon enough, and when he does…I wouldn’t want to be on the other side of it.

Also, currently loving that Jody Craddock picture, it’s currently my desktop wallpaper…I’m such a fanboy. It’s just so pumped full of passion, I can only echoe Mike’s comments, if that’s from a player who’s hardly played this season, and who realistically is enjoying his Wolves swansong, it makes you proud.

Cheers for the kind words as always!

Welcome slim to the offside…this blog only gets better with someone like toby writing the Blogs. :D

Yeh Craddock wanted that goal more than any other player on the pitch. You could tell by his beaming smile and the pure energy in his jump! Things can only get better after a match like that…and henners was good but there was still a few mistakes which could have been costly if we were playing the likes of donnie or sheff but overall it was a good performance by him. I also noticed that henry was actually making forward passes in the first half….Shocking! however my MOTM would be Vokes…got a rare start and made it happen within the first minute…he flew out the traps quicker than anyone else and maintained a good work rate throughout…would like to see vokes and keogh start monday even if ebanks is fit…first of all givin ebanks a bit more rest and give him like 30 mins at the end…but also interested whether they can pull off a similar performance!

I’d tend to side with you simon on resting Ebanks if possible, I’d rather have him 100% for three games than 70% for one game, and out for the rest of the season.

By now we all know Bham 0-0 with Charlton which with our Goal difference means we are really 5 points clear of both Sheff n the Blues….They wont both catch us!!
Anyone else gonna join me n Simon with the cry from the best blog in Football….Were up I tells Ya!

Deep deep down I think we might actually do it but until Monday’s game is over I can’t bring myself to say it out loud!

Big thanks to Charlton for putting up a fight considering the inevitable.

I noticed seb and the big man are going to be out again for Mondays match. Hopefully Mick will start with the same team as yesterday as confidence will be high. Keogh to get 3.. he deserves some credit for all that running!
oh and why not, another one for Craddock too!

I’ll relax if we win the next two games, and I think we’ll have the “P” next to our name after QPR.

By the way, the stadium plan on the official website is showing that Doncaster tickets are sold out already. Does anyone know if thats just a mistake or have I been stupid enough to miss my chance to see Wolves lift the title?

I will join you in the “we are up, I tells ya” chant.

Both Blues and Blades will drop points before the end of the season. 2 wins will make it certain, although I actually think that 1 win will be enough in the end, the way Blues are playing. I reckon they will need a win at Reading on the last day and Reading will be looking to keep 3rd spot for advantage in the play offs. Blues to lose and Blades to be promoted in 2nd.

    Come on me babbies.

By the way, anybody intending on going to see Wolves in Australia in July? I am in Melbourne and will be flying in to see the lads. Be great to organise a piss up before hand.

    Welcome to the club Steve.

Australia is a little far for me but it is fantastic that you guys who post comments, and maybe there are others reading this blog, are gonna make it to see how we are shapeing up for next season. It will be great to hear what you have to say when the time comes.

Not only the best blog in football Toby but also the most international…lol

I have to work the day of the Doncaster game but have arranged to be in Kidderminster which means I will actually be outside The Golden Palace at about 4.30 onwards (dont tell the boss)just to feel the Glory!!!

Ah I wish I could get over to Australia, I’ve got family there and they keep on telling me to come over, I just can’t afford the air fare, which isn’t suprising, because I can’t afford a lot of things. It’ll be a good tour though I’d imagine, bed in new signings away from the glare of expectant local support! And take the likes of Blake and Kightly to the other side of the world…should keep Moyes at bay.

{Mike, Steve] I have to say that, while I like your optimism, Toby strikes me as the true Wolves fan here. If promotion is guaranteed as long as we don’t lose by more than 10 on the final day, the true Wolves fan will expect the half-time score to read Wolves 0, Doncaster 9. :)

I liked mick’s comment on sky sports about being confident, we are looking like a great squad though. I’d love to think we could win all our remaining games but I’ll settle for 2 wins which will do the job. I only see the gap as 4 coz if sheff utd could catch us they would then have a better goal diff. but its very unlikely and to be honest we can only bottle it now and that isn’t gonna happen. Great blog b.t.w. toby!

CdM – Good to see that there are some other wolves fans in Victoria, so far I haven’t met many. Regarding the friendly in July, I have been in touch with some Wolves fans in Perth and they are all meeting up in a local pub called the Brisbane Hotel near to Perth Glory’s ground on 10th July.

Toby – keep up the good work. I would be absolutely lost without your articles and clips. Best blog site I’ve seen.
