Accrington Stanley Prediction
By: Matt | August 12th, 2008
Now there’s a headline I hadn’t expected to be writing any time soon. Wolves entertain the team made famous by the milk advert in the 1990s (at least I think it was in the 90s but I’m getting to the age where decades such as the 80s and 90s are merging into one), Accrington Stanley.
Accrington were promoted to the Football League in 2006 and have managed to stay in League Two since, although just about, finishing 20th and 17th respectively. They started this season’s league campaign with a 1-0 home defeat against newly promoted Aldershot on Saturday.
Wolves are expected to make a number of changes for tonight’s game. Michael Kightly and David Jones both took slight knocks last weekend and are expected to be rested, and with McCarthy revealing that Micky Gray, Chris Iwelumo, Sam Vokes, David Edwards, Matt Jarvis, and very suprisingly, the transfer listed Darren Potter, are all likely to get a game, expect Andy Keogh, SEB, and Steven Ward also to be rested, at least from the starting 11. Whether Mick will replace Hennessey with Ikeme remains to be seen, but I expect not.
These games are notoriously hard to predict. Wolves have blown hot and cold in the Carling Cup over recent years, particularly at Molineux, despite claims of no complacency such as this, with a half empty Molineux and a highly motivated opposition these games are rarely easy. Depite this I’m going for a (semi) comfortable 2-0 home win, with goal from Iwelumo and a 25 yard pile driver from Micky Gray.
