Wolves Video Of The Day – Citizen Richards
By: Toby | March 30th, 2009Bit of actual Wolves Business first off, Ebanks Blake won Championship Player of the year and Goal of the Season last night, with this Maradonaesque strike against Charlton. Wolves also won Family Club of The Year. Alas, we didn’t win Best Digital Communication, nor best Best Fan Marketing Campaign, a fact of which I am of course astounded by. Her herm.
Off to 1974 now and it’s Wolverhampton Wanderers verses Manchester City in the League Cup Final. Wolves lined up with Pierce, Palmer, Parkin, Bailey (capt), Munro, McAlle, Sunderland, Hibbitt, Richards, Dougan, Wagstaffe leading the line against the Citizens, looking to bring their first league Cup back to the Molineux for the first time for 35 years. This a great video here, it’s really got a sense of history about it, nicely intercut with interviews from Geoff Palmer and Kenny Hibbitt really showing you what it meant to the lads to be out there, playing for their team. I hope this video stays up long enough for some of you to see this, have a bit of a reminisce, or if you’re like me, educate yourself in Wolves’ history. What a day, let’s be hoping for some more like it soon eh?
Right then! Enjoy!

Oh, dear, bit of a lump in the throat there. Glad there’s no-one else in this office. Nice to hear the Brian Moore commentary voice again as well.

That’s another great video; thanks Toby. I think I remember reading long ago that what Bill McGarry said to Gary Pierce was “I couldn’t believe it were you, lad”. Mind you, I still feel a bit sorry for how Big Phil Parkes missed out on that game — iirc, he had been in goal for many (most? all?) of the prior cup games. He and Kenny Hibbitt were my favourite players at that time.

Kenny Hibbitt, I hate diving but I will always remember his dive at Hilsborough (1981 I think) in the last minute against Spurs to grab a 2-2 draw. Forget the 5-0 drubbing in the replay, he did it for wolves and it made my day.
